article - Improving Instruction with Interactive Whiteboards by D. Schaffhauser (entry 5)

This article excited me! I hope school districts across the U.S. are moving in this direction. This author emphasized the importance of this interactive technology in drawing the students in to actively participate in their learning and broaden the horizon of available information. The results this particular school district saw were substantial and the amount of participation of students grew to 100%. That should be enough to convince most school districts to make this kind of technology a priority. The author also gave suggestions for how to "cut corners" by purchasing only the necessary components and doing without the upgrades until funds were increased. The only idea mentioned that took me back was the suggestion to do away with textbooks. I dont know if I would make that drastic a suggestion unless every student had equal access to the same information. A teacher would also need some kind of curriculum guide to save time and effort on the preparation side of learning. I still need to think this one over to decide if I would make such a statement.
